Background

DNDH gives Jeff a note.

On April 1st, 2017, there was a surprise airing of a long-awaited episode of Rick and Morty. The episode featured a sequence about a 1998 McDonalds promotion, which offered "Mulan Szechuan Teriyaki Dipping Sauce", promoting the release of the 1998 Disney Film Mulan. Following the airing, a slew of 'Zigerian' scammers took to eBay to capitalize on the sauce hype, attempting to sell fake sauce-related items. Some of these items include: packets, pictures of packets, screenshots of listings of photos of packets, etc.

Amidst the chaos of fabricated listings, one posted by the mysterious DefinitelyNotDanHarmon reached $100,000 before being taken down due to multiple false reports on the item. Screenshots of the listing can be viewed here. Reports confirming the listing are available from this article and an inverse.com article. Since then, it has surfaced that DefinitelyNotDanHarmon is part of an ARG. We know that he has taken to Reddit and has assembled r/SzechuanSauceSeekers in effort to retake his rightful place as the DEFINITE Unofficial AUTHENTIC sauce distributor on eBay, and to uncover the mystery behind The GOLDEN PACKET. DefinitelyNotDanHarmon has appeared on Reddit, masquerading as a number of users.

On Sunday, April 9 during a live stream of the Harmontown podcast with Dan Harmon, someone rushed onto the stage and handed Jeff, the comptroller, a note. Jeff refused to read the note onstage but the video showed some glimpses of it.

On Friday, May 8, 2017 a /u/StrangeManInBlack came into our Discord channel, causing havoc by posing as a newbie posting what was assumed to be a previous encryption text, presumably looking for answers. After spamming this ciphertext and a zip file repeatedly, the strangemaninblack was banned from the Discord, and instead started posting to Reddit.

New Seeker Guide

This is an obvious viral campaign. Do not try to adjust your monitor. The best way to enjoy this game and solve these puzzles is to start from the beginning and solve them yourself, read the pages linked behind the codes and understand why they are there. The puzzles (referred to as "sauceposts") are posted on Reddit and usually have comments made by either the OP or an alt account that hint towards the solution. There are also sauce packets available on EBay (100% of the proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity, EBay verified) which contain clues to future puzzles.

There are five main questions central to this ARG:

  1. Who is DNDH?
  2. What is IT?
  3. Where?
  4. When?
  5. Why?

IT is coming. The Sauce is a Lie. The Szauce is Much More.

Sauceposts

There are a number of image posts on the subreddit with the tag "Saucepost", which is where most of the puzzles can be found. These images are often encrypted and able to be decrypted with enchiper.it, or they may contain QR codes. The QR codes often lead to TV Tropes wiki pages which have given insight into the back story, and revealed behind the scenes transcripts and logs of DNDH. However, not all information is contained in the Sauceposts. Further information may be found in these Reddit accounts.

NOTE: All of the post titles are clickable and will bring you to the Reddit post they are from. It is a good idea to click it if you are stuck or don't really understand it, as there are usually comments that will help provide some revelation.
