ARGs

These fully-fledged ARGs, categorized below, are confirmed to be the "real deal". Active ARGs are those which are currently being discussed within the Game Detectives community and frequently yielding new developments. Closed ARGs are those which have been completed, cancelled, or have otherwise gone inactive.

Official

Official ARGs are usually high-profile, high-quality, and backed by a known commercial entity. Official ARGs can be extremely challenging and in-depth and sometimes attract very large audiences. While not always the case, these types of ARGs tend to involve existing media or upcoming releases thereof; for example, a game developer might include clues for an ARG inside one of their games, or might create an ARG to lead up to a release of content. They commonly include real-world situations, characters, plot-lines, and challenges which engage with the community to create unique, authentic puzzle-solving experiences.

Unofficial

Unofficial ARGs are typically smaller in scope than official ARGs. Some were created by members of the Game Detectives community, or were made with Game Detectives in mind. Unofficial ARGs tend to have a smaller audience than official ones.

Investigations

These are trails which have been investigated by the community, but have yet to conclude in anything substantial. Alternatively, these may have concluded in the discovery of an easter egg rather than a full-blown ARG.
