Note: This page is dreadfully outdated, and gives information about the first incarnation of this ARG. All discussion about Levels had long ceased on Game Detectives, but now it's back! Still, if you are still interested in participating in Levels, you should probably check out the Levels forums while this page's being reformatted.

The first incarnation of LEVELS was an ARG centered around the the mysterious LEVELS website. Little was discovered about this incarnation, but the first site was initially intended to have seven "trials", each of which would grant an appropriate level of access on the LEVELS website.

Once registered, the players were met with challenges to complete/solve. The puppetmaster made it clear that these challenges were intended to be completed individually, to broaden individuals' own skills and knowledge. Participants were supposed to complete the registration on their own (to test their skills and abilities), but information sharing for the further challenges is advised.

The LEVELS website went through several iterations, and, most recently, it has been relaunched with new puzzles being added. (Link: https://levels.your-host.xyz/) However, discussion of LEVELS on the Game Detectives Discord server had decreased significantly after the website became a forum, and investigation of LEVELS had since been closed until the website was relaunched.

Registration

The website was supposed to provide challenges to registered users; however, the registration itself was a puzzle. There were intended to be seven different opportunities for registration, each one with a countdown until its end. Each consecutive level was supposed to be easier to complete, but each one granting the registrant a lower "level" out of 7.

There were supposed to be seven levels of registration - however, the site ran into unforeseen complications, and the registration process had to be cut short after the puzzle for Level 4 was released. Levels has since moved to a forum, but the website was very recently relaunched.

Solutions to puzzles will not be documented without the puppetmasters' permission.

Level 7

As of the moment of discovery, the website was in registration for the Level 7 stage. It had server outage later and the closing of this registration was postponed to 2016-10-09T09:00 UTC.

Solution

The source for the homepage showed that the background of the page was actually made up of an image, level07.png. Hidden within this image was a message:

Level07 message.png

For those ready to OPEN the gate to the path of justice, its lady holds the key...

This hint path of justice lead to the registration page, which is no longer available. This required a registration code, which was hidden in the image through steganography.

Some users noticed that OPEN was in a larger font size than the rest of the text, while others simply recognised the dots in the image; either way, they were lead to OpenStego as the software used to conceal a file in the image.

A password was required to unlock the file. This password was scales, which is what Lady Justice literally holds. After using this password, contained within the image was the file scales.txt:

Registration Code: du@w3stu#2Bu

This registration code, along with a large amount of personal information, could then be used to register for Level 7.
