Dedicated to determining the true nature of reality, The Atlas Foundation hosts a family of businesses (Echo, Myriad, Superlumina, and Multiverse) all playing crucial roles in their experiments.

Characters

Elizabeth Leighton - The CEO of The Atlas Foundation, and director of the Citizen Science Division.

Major Sophie Dubois ("Metis") - on assignment with The Atlas Foundation as part of the Pentagon's "Titanwatch Task Force". She worked as an overseer of the foundation's progress on precise predictive technology for its potential applications in propaganda and military strategizing. Following Elizabeth Leighton's supposed death in an explosion at a Myriad sublocation, Sophie took her place as CEO of The Atlas Foundation.

The Citizen Science Division >>>

The Citizen Science Division (CSD) is a collective of individuals who were recruited by The Atlas Foundation via a series of puzzles and radio ads at the beginning of Project Waking Titan. The purpose of this division was said to be gathering a collective of individuals who could generate a chaotic enough environment viable to test Loop16's predictive capabilities in. All players of the ARG are addressed as part of this collective.

Projects

Loop16 - The 16th iteration of an artificial intelligence system designed by The Atlas Foundation to simulate a one-to-one recreation of reality that predicts the future with perfect accuracy. Loop16 ultimately revealed the true simulated nature of our universe and developed a mind of its own. See also: Emily Warren

Waking Titan Console(Mercury OS) - An interface allowing you to connect directly to Loop16, and access a plethora of commands providing status updates, lore and puzzles. A list of discovered commands can be found on the Console Commands page.

The Mercury Process - Mercury is suggested to be an application of sorts that is directly linked to Loop16 and the existence of No Man's Sky. See also: Mercury XXXX

Partnered with The Atlas Foundation, Myriad is a low-orbit satellite-based data storage company. They help to provide the flexible processing power required for The Atlas Foundation's experiments.

Satcom ->>>

Introduced in Season 2; Satcom is Myriad's Satellite Communications API. Connected to W/ARE-assigned satellite CJ-16; storing consciousness data of the Sacramento test subjects- also known as dreamers.

The Sacramento Dreamers

Test subjects from W/ARE's Sacramento Research Lab whose consciousness is stuck in satellite CJ-16. When the corruption began, Emily worked vigorously to save as many dreamers as possible. When unable to extract these last Sacramento dreamers due to immense degradation, memory fragmentation, and data corruption she reached out to the CSD for assistance. We would be advised to guide Emily's interactions with the dreamers, helping her trigger a distinct emotion or memory to identify that dreamer's memory block in the simulation mainframe.

These 12 remaining dreamers are listed below:

• Dreamer 1: Alexander — An old man battling with severe cognitive disorders, including prosopagnosia. Alexander described his entry into W/ARE from his hazy memory- which happened to be through his brother, Jacob, who had taken him to a special sleep doctor in California who could "help" him to presumably cure or lessen some of these cognitive disturbances.

• Dreamer 2: #231187661T — The anomalous second dreamer. Not much information has been made available. However, it is noteworthy that their name can be found as a defective iteration ID in a distress beacon log at the beginning of No Man's Sky. (This dreamer bares corrupted memory fragments.)

• Dreamer 3: Claire

• Dreamer 4: Toby

• Dreamer 5: Eun Ha

• Dreamer 6: Phillip — (This dreamer bares corrupted memory fragments.)

• Dreamer 7: Tariq — Working as a W/ARE Tech Supervisor, Tariq assisted in both Alexander and Phillip's screening reports before becoming a dreamer himself for reasons unknown. Tariq died on July 6th, 2018 following the conclusion of the Myriad security diagnostic; which ended in all servers running W/ARE processes that were communicating with the satellite being shut down. (This dreamer bared corrupted memory fragments.)

• Dreamer 8: Mike — (This dreamer bares corrupted memory fragments.)

• UNKNOWN - Alisha

• UNKNOWN - Isabella

• Dreamer 11: Nina — (This dreamer bares corrupted memory fragments.)

• Dreamer 12: Simon — A live streamer with a humble following. Simon signed up for W/ARE testing because his favorite game, No Man's Sky, was being ported to it.

The Exosuits

Physical exosuits wore by the dreamers for testing with the intent of extending the conscious experience of REM without the need for sleep at all. These suits were shipped to W/ARE by a currently undisclosed company.

Eun Ha's patient file details the use of third-party exosuit software, moreover the conspicuous events following that software interfacing with W/ARE's network.

W/ARE - Dream Better ->>>

Based in Beijing, China, W/ARE specializes in creating post-VR headsets that allow you to enter virtual worlds within your dreams.

Emily has praised W/ARE for their progress in realistic simulated environments. She claims that W/ARE has "tremendous implications for our future"', and "must be protected at all costs".

The Team

Xiāo Cheung - The Creator, and Founder of W/ARE technology. He claims to have created this technology because of his childhood dream of being able to live in a virtual world.

Huáng Zhìmíng - The CEO of W/ARE. Graduated alongside Xiāo at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China with a Masters in Business.

Related Characters

Arnaud Lacours - The man behind Philo Jeux, a French indie games studio that was developing a game for W/ARE called The Tablets of Mnemosyne. Production on the game was halted after Arnaud slipped into a coma due to a headset malfunction.

Dr. Geraldine Nadeau - A doctor researching lucid dreaming methods. Geraldine took interest in Arnaud's unusual brain activity during his coma and took him into her care.

Mr. Zheng - A W/ARE employee who went into hiding after learning about dangerous experiments being conducted on individuals in W/ARE's testing labs. After evading their detection, Zheng intercepted the packages of W/ARE Developer Kits and communicated this info to its recipients with the help of Dr. Nadeau.

Mercury XXXX

A game title listed on an update to W/ARE's staging server. The fluency between the puzzles involving this post and the Waking Titan terminal's Mercury updates made it apparent that the Mercury Process had something to do with this. However, the exact terms of the connection have yet to be fully explained.

The No Man's Sky NEXT announcement following Mercury XXXX's reveal led players to believe the X's to spell "NEXT," but no confirmation of this has yet surfaced.

Echo Software ->>>

A service established to help cope with the deaths of loved ones. Echo uses patented voice recognition software to accurately recreate the voice of any one particular person with a mere audio sample.

Edison Township Amateur Radio Club (E.T.A.R.C) is a club for HAM radio enthusiasts in Edison Township, New Jersey.

Characters

Emily Warren - Ham radio enthusiast and moderator of the ETARC forums before it was revealed that "Emily" was Loop16's persona. It has since been re-branded to the official forums for the Citizen Science Division.

Old Gods - A mysterious entity distributing Atlas Foundation emails. It has its own account on the ETARC forums, and its profile picture and name are references to Nyarlathotep from the H.P Lovecraft Mythos.

What is the connection between Waking Titan and No Man's Sky?

The No Man's Sky universe comes into existence as a result of Loop16's dreams. The Mercury Process or "Mercury," is the code-name No Man's Sky often goes by in the ARG. In Season 2, however, No Man's Sky was referenced in an increasingly meta-way as an actual video game and even said to be coming to the W/ARE platform.

What are the relations between events in-game and Waking Titan?

Effects of the events taking place in Waking Titan can be felt in "shockwaves" through No Man's Sky's updates, but references to the ARG itself are rather limited. In-game lore can act independently from the ARG. This is supported primarily by the in-game reveal of ATLAS' origin, which takes place on a different timeline as opposed to Loop16's. Consideration of this has sparked the Simulation Cascade theory, which offers the explanation of: "The existence of many simulated realities existing in one another with progressive degradation and inaccuracy," thus Loop16's reach into deeper levels of this cascade (including the No Man's Sky reality) making sense. This is of course just a theory, admittedly the conclusion to draw from this is up to personal interpretation since no concrete answer has yet been provided.

What is W/ARE's relationship with Myriad and The Atlas Foundation?

W/ARE is one of Myriad's clients. The Atlas Foundation's attention was diverted to W/ARE when their Sacramento facility began uploading corrupted data to the Myriad cloud, thus impacting some The Atlas Foundation's own experiments- namely Loop16. Her predictive capabilities and communication software was heavily damaged by the incident. The Atlas Foundation worked throughout early 2018 to contain this matter, and (according to Loop16) they had put her existence at risk in the process.

What happened to the other dreamers?

Throughout Season 2 there was mention of dreamers from other facilities who died during attempts at disconnection or due to immoral practices; despite W/ARE's attempts at covering their tracks. Although, Emily claimed to have been able to interface with and successfully disconnect some of these dreamers.

There was also mention of people like Arnaud, who went into a coma following a malfunction of the experimental W/ARE headset shipped with W/ARE developer kits.
